Background There's been an increasing trend towards higher-resolution ground terrains recently, both among the Community terrainmakers, and also with BIS themselves... I recently got around to wading thru the PMC campaign in MP with a friend, and we had a helluva time (in a good way!) creeping around on Proving Grounds, which, as most of you will have noticed by it's "fairly demanding" performance requirements - not to mention the moonscape microterrain - features a very high-res ground terrain mesh...
Hi-res ground meshes are a Good Thing for terrainmakers - you can do a lot more with a landscape when it's basically gridded in finer detail... even features as small as trenches become possible... (prowler.wolf ahead of the pack there, as usual ) On a slightly larger scale - more natural hillslopes, bays and beaches, erosion features - they're all easier to make in better detail and more convincingly with a hi-res ground mesh... Not to mention how much more fun they can be to play on, with all those smaller scale and more frequent & natural dips and hillocks and ground cover... The price for all of these Good Things is, of course, those previously-mentioned "fairly demanding performance requirements"...
Afghan Valley, Ghor Province. Afghanistan. 5.12km x 5.12km Terrain 5m Ground Resolution This synthetic terrain represents a small eroded valley in central Ghor Province, Afghanistan. I had great fun on this terrain using the BIS Town Generator module - for which it's ideal! - it's used in the in-game island "cutscene" too - a different town every time!
Etah Plateau, Western Antarctica. 5.12km x 5.12km Terrain 5m Ground Resolution Next stop on the microterrain World Tour, this synthetic terrain represents a small area of Western Antarctica.
Faffindale, North Yorkshire Dales 5.12km x 5.12km Terrain 5m Ground Resolution
This synthetic terrain represents a small area of the Yorkshire Dales. The Dales are limestone country. At one time in the prehistoric past, the whole area was a shallow tropical sea, with many coral reefs and atolls. Eventually, the sea became land, and the sand and coral became various sandstone and limestone rocks. Since that time there have also been glaciation episodes, forestation, deforestation, resulting in the quite Scottish-looking moorland with small woods in sheltered areas, characteristic of this impressively scenic part of England.
Heavily Recommended Addons JTD Clear Horizons removes those ugly painted mountains, so everything you see actually IS there... A permanent fixture in my "always on" addon folder, I heavily recommend it for viewing these terrains!
Chimalpopoco, Central Andes. 5.12km x 5.12km Terrain 5m Ground Resolution
The Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes is located between latitudes 14º and 29ºS of the Andean cordillera. An elevated region, much of it over 4000 m in altitude (constituting the altiplano of Bolivia and puna of northern Chile and Argentina) dominates much of this zone.
The Hawaiian Islands are at the southeastern end of a chain of volcanoes that began to form more than 70 million years ago. Many of these volcanoes formed islands that have subsided and eroded beneath sea level, and some of the old volcanoes probably never reached sea level. Each Hawaiian island is made of one or more volcanoes, which first erupted on the sea floor and only emerged above the ocean's surface after countless eruptions.

TheSun has released an ACR weapon pack addon v0.5 on the BI Forums. This pack contains several models of weapons used by Czech army, be it special forces or regular infantry. A lot of the weapons are present in ArmA already, these just add more varability to them. I plan to add more in time.

This mod changes and adds to the way the new thermal imaging system is displayed and applied to vehicles in ArmA2 Combined Operations. The majority of ground vehicles have had their thermal sights tweaked in the following manner: gunners have a green thermal scope, and commanders have a red/orange scope (excepts in Russian vehicles, where the commander has the normal black/white scope). Mondkalb has release his new Window Of Opportunity (WOO) game mode on the BI Forums.
Window Of Opportunity (WOO) is a new game mode that is basically a mix between warfare and high command. More commonly known as "Real Time Strategy".
Goal of this was to create a new gamemode that appeals to all of those players, that couldn't get around playing Arma2 anymore because of the lack of fellow players to help get a decent sized coop squad up, to those that have constant performance issues when playing and those that think Arma2 can be played in a bigger magnitude, with a bigger scope than a normal coop or warfare offers.
And, without being modest, I believe I've achieved all that.
So, go ahead and have a try, because describing what it is will inevitably lead to TL;DR. (Or check this video out, first.)
Kju has informed us about the Nineteenth release of A&S ProMode (2011-07-28).
And yet another large update with a few big additions, several updates and important fixes. Please read the changelog below for details.
Note: The files with the _AI_ tag have the AI mode active by default.
