  ABG-RLK Recon Operators Addon release
Sheildsy has releaded a sample version of his RLK Recon Operators addon, part of his Wasteland Warriors Mod on our forums.

The RLK is a fictional small nation in the South-East of Europe with Strong Serbian and Greek Influences.
Thier military strength relies on thier small but professional Regular Army, Elite Special Forces and the Reserve Conscript Force, where it is manditory for all males aged 18 to serve 12 months in the RLK Reserves.

Iam hoping to continue the project with the next release being a full version of the RLK-Regular Army.
If anyone is wanting to contribute to this project, by all means post ideas.
I want this to be a community based project, so if you have an idea for an OPFOR for the RLK, fictional or real world, or even a situation you would like to see the RLK in, by all means let your imagination run wild!

  El Hierro island Screenshots
Opteryx has informed us that he released some information and several screenshots of his El Hierro island, in the BI Forums. You can watch a youtube video here.

So I've been working on and off for some time on a pretty nice island I found during one of my Google Earth scavenge hunts. The island in question is El Hierro which is part of the Canaries and pretty big. Terrain all together is 40x40 km (including surrounding water).

Now the primary reason I'm presenting this while it's still in early alpha state is because I'm curious if anyone would be interested in helping me out a little with it. There are some structures in default ArmA that could fit very nicely into this scenery, but I think it would be nice with some Spanish style houses, or perhaps even vegetation.

However, I am quite busy and will be so for a long time with IMW terrain, so the amount of time I can dedicate to this is limited, therefore I don't see any release in the near future, just so that's said. So if you're interested in helping me out a bit, contact me and I'd be glad. Even just some reskinned houses would be nice too. Either way I hope to get it done as soon as time will grant me.

  Mig15 Teaser Video released Videos
Bdfy has posted a video of his upcoming Mig 15 jet addon in his thread over on the Armaholic forums. The video shows the jet in flight and firing rockets.

I made a small WIP video featuring the MiG in action. This is my first one and I don't have too much traffic to waste - thus video is tiny and rather crapy :) But I believe you can enjoy it anyway. Addon is prgressing quite well at the moment. We are working on the cockpit and authentic dashboard. More screenies will come soon

  ARMA Technology Inside General

Ondřej Å paněl has released a new "ARMA Technology Inside" entry on the Bohemia Interactive web site. This entry is about terrain representation and animation and most of all about the need for a technology to mature before beeing used in a game.

In this blog entry I would like to share with you some experiences of how new technology is being developed for computer games. I hope it will help you to understand the complex and interesting work which is needed for a new feature to be used to its full benefits.

...As a result, Sahrani does not use the technology as well as it could. As Ivan wrote in his Landscape Almost Real, this should change with ArmA 2, which will use the next instalment of this terrain technology, but this time the whole game world design process is done with the technology already known, which leads to much better results.

Uses and Abuses for cracked MLOD models article Community

JdB and I have written an article concerning the "illegal MLOD models issue".

News edited, new information at the end!

A few days ago a kind of earthquake has occurred unnoticed by all but the Modders of our community. Generally modders can learn how to model and create config files by using BIS samples and seeing how they are made, since there is very little public information and documentation.

Unfortunately only a very limited amount of these models have been released by BIS, so Synide, a modder, converted all BIS encrypted models to an editable format, called MLOD, to offer them to the modding community. He did this without BIS permission, so it was a kind of reverse engineering method, which is clearly forbidden in the Armed Assault EULA.

Recently BIS has made it clear that people that used the reverse engineered MLOD's should cease doing this immediately, including sites that host the results of this breach of the EULA. As you may have noticed we just opened this section on our website a few days ago and were forced to close it. Our action to propose these models to the “masses†actually kind of started the whole issue.

You can read the full article here!

EDIT:
We have a great new...
Placebo shown our article to Marek Spanel and he confirmed us that BIS is going to release all their MLODS models for being used by the Arma community, we just still do not know if it will really be all models, nor how they will be released, where and when!

Quoting Placebo:
They key issue is really that when we release them we include full and proper documentation such as EULA which clearly states what they can and cannot be used for, whereas unathorised releases tend not to include such "protective" documentation.

It means that, once more, BIS will find a way to continue supporting the community, like they used to do since years!

Render Map by rommel Addon release
Rommel reminds us he has released his Render Map addon on our Forums.

I noticed a lot of addon makers used a plain white map to show off their addons in previews in OFP days, and since I haven't seen any yet, thought I might make one out of boredom.
Its plain white and with the right lighting it can look quite nice, basically just a white box.
I only released it because I know a lot of people are scared of Visitor because its such a...

  Invasion 1944 is back? Videos
While browsing Youtube for Arma videos, we came across a few interesting pages, made by jojimbo and Canukausiuka, that appears to show Invasion 1944 material in ArmA. To make sure it was really them that made this, we contacted jojimbo, and he had the following to say:

"Yes, we have indeed started porting over some of the content from OFP to ArmA. It started when a few old friends that formed the Core of the mod started posting on our team forums after a long period of silence. With a renewed interest, we've started working on the port. Shown in the videos, besides the graphical progress, is a first for us in ArmA modding, namely animations on weapons, especially bolt-operated. We now use these to have the weapon operate as realistically as possible with fully animated carriage."
