FAFw - Closes it's doors! Community

lodu from the FAFw - Forces Armées Françaises Workshop announced that they stop producing addons for their mod!

We've reached a point of fatigue that prevents us from continuing further.
We know that your frustration will be high, but the drawbacks inherent in the modding ARMA2 largely explained on this forum, which we have no control, compel us to conclude the adventure.

In addition, recent attacks on the work done by us have also reasoned that withdrawal, with weapons and baggage.
In clear: the mod addons fafw not come out in any software whatsoever (arma, ARMA2, its future extensions, VBS2 in its different versions and, more generally, any software capable to develop this work).

This post has no right answer: it is purely informative, precisely because we are tired of the constant controversy surrounding this mod.

I wish you all the best.

Mapfact is closing the doors Community

Here is a stunning new : Mapfact closes the doors. How its possible such a reference site is going to disappeared from our gaming universe ? Well, it look like it's true, read the farewell new from Mapfact.
Thank you guys for all you have done, all you have given to the community during all those years. Bye.

If something suddenly disappears we were use to have it leaves us with the feeling of a loss. Maybe you'll feel the same with Mapfact. For more than seven years we have given our best to entertain the community of Operatoin Flashpoint, Armed Assault and ArmA 2 with missions and addons as well as supporting you with useful tools and competent help with editing, scripting and creating addons.

The first years with Operation Flashpoint have really been a great time. We literally used to spend nearly every free minute to create something special and always aspired to keep up with the guys of Bohemia Interactive Studio if not even going a bit further here and there. Of the initial Mapfact members - recruited back then by jos, the founder of Mapfact.net - Chneemann is the only one who is still active. When jos left for good he handed over the baton to Chneemann.

As the bright star of OFP began to fade we once already thought about closing Mapfact. The community was decreasing and the feedback got lesser. But exactly that feedback has always been an important part of ourmotivation to start just another project. At the same time it's been pretty much the only reward for our efforts.
As Armed Assault was announced we were confident the community would grow again. However it is not an easy thing to repeat such an outstanding success as that of Operation Flashpoint. BIS had to learn that and we neithercouldn't quite resume the great days of OFP. Nevertheless we decided to get together and to continue the way to provide you some special things again. Unfortunately fewer of us were able to participate actively.

Sadly today is the day that we have to tell you Mapfact is closing its doors by the end of this year. This is not because of ArmA or ArmA 2 but rather because time has taken its toll of us. Since the release of OFP we have grown eight years older. During this period of time many things did change in our private as well as our professional lifes, interests change. Only few of us still have the time to create ambitious missions or addons. That is why we have to say farewell to you and to thank you for your constant loyalty over the years. It was a fine time with its ups and downs we were granted to spend with you and we will never forget.

We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to jos who had started all this, we would like to thank our Mapfact mates Blake, DJ Kroßova, Flashpoint_k, MP-Studio who went this way with us for some time, we like to say thank you to our translators MephisBelle and simba who also participated in betatesting. And of course we have to mention Idontno for all his part in organising two workshops with us, we say thank you to big x, to Marco-Polo-IV and to Sky for for their great projects they did with us.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to all betatesters - the ASC! -, to all who contributed missions, addons, forum help, advice, good vibrations. It couldn't have been done without any of you, literally. Thank you!

And who knows, one day when we're old and decrepit and hear the words "Malden Islands" in a TV Show about antique computer games our tired eyes will shine for a moment and we will say "Malden Islands? Oh yeah, I´ve been there a couple years when I was a young man..."

Yours, Mapfact Team

AAN World News on air ? Community

=Armatec= has informed us about his discovery of an AAN World News site.

While Searching Google today for the old ANN news from arma1 I come across this rather neat informal website that seems to be covering the situations from A2's story in real-time I don’t know who created it. All the info on there is it was created by AAN Network and parent company.

ArmA2 : Wacht am Rhein Project Community

I44_John from Invasion 1944 Mod has informed us about their projected "Wacht am Rhein" campaign for ArmA2 on our Forums.

We decided about a year ago that we wanted to go back to the Wacht am Rhein project once we were finished with the Normandy project for ArmA1. The Normandy project will be ported to ArmA2, which is our first priority, but once this is completed, little if any expanding of the project is expected. The Ardennes offensive will take priority after that.

Traditionally, we have always focused on singleplayer (SP), with the hope that the mod would be as usable as possible in multiplayer (MP). However, due to improvements in internet connection speeds and changes in the gaming industry over the years, multiplayer gaming has now become our main focus. We will also make it possible for the campaign to be played in SP, but it will be orientated primarily towards MP.

We aim to create a character driven storyline somewhat similar to that of BIS' "Razor" campaign (as far as time and technology permits anyway). The campaign is projected to consist of 4-7 Co-op missions, in which the player will be the tank commander of a Waffen SS tank crew in the Kampfgruppe Peiper of the 1.SS "Leibstandarte" division (that's right, you'll be playing as a German). We realize that this is a unit with a somewhat tainted reputation because of the actions of some of it's members during the battle of the Bulge. We will however continue to stand by our decision to include any symbols that were used (mostly the swastika and runes) to not detract from the realism. The missions will be small to medium-sized, really large tank/combined arms battles are reserved for separate missions (SP and MP).

Updated goArmA to version 1.9.7 Community

Hoot, informed us about an update of goArmA to ArmA 2 !

Hi folks,

Our charlie squad has lifted goArmA, our one-click multilauncher suite, up to Version 1.9.7 with support for ArmAII now. If there are no more bugs found, this will be the last version from the 1.0 branch, because goArmA2 is in the pipeline with lots of new features, new interfaces and hey, we want to focus on that :P

The minipage for downloads is still present at goArmA.com. If you have goArmA installed already, wait for the notification by the tool itself to update. If you've disabled autoupdate, trigger it manually.

Videotutorial for 1.0.42 can be found over at Youtube

Best regards,
Hoot

After the Paris Lan Game Party Community

Here we go again, back from Paris and after a night sleeping like a log. Here is my report from the June 4th Paris Lan Game Party :

First contact 11:30. Playing alone first solo mission.
Nice smooth travel over the Green Sea offering a nice sight. But we are not here for sightseeing, the chopper is landing.
I am following my team leader in the village. Some hostiles are spotted. I am really in a village. Shots are heard. My team leader turn around the corner of a house.
I jump over a fence to follow him. He is shot down on the spot, cautiously I haul him back to shelter and try to give him first aid. Bullets are whistling around. I am in combat, shoot! Shoot!
I am injured, a red haze blinding my eyes as I lay on the ground.

[about the pic : this camera shot is bad, but it shows well how I feel after being hit the first time]

First thoughts. Quite beautiful, the view of the water during the travel over the Green Sea is mouth gaping.
The game is quite immersive from the start. The surroundings in the village are so full of details either modelled and textured that ArmA is looking a bit simple in comparison.

More experiments. 13:15. Playing alone an other solo mission ... after having eat a cherry tomato and a tasty small chicken brochette.
Following my team leader near an airstrip somewhere in Chernarus. Surrounded by hostiles, weapons sounds all around, tracers everywhere. A target on the other side of the runway, target down. On my belly in the grass tying to find a new target, some grass before my eyes.
Shit they have found me !

Second thought about the game. It's a rather different experiment from ArmA. The environment is denser, the sounds quite goods and the FX excellent.
ArmA 2 is realistic, much more realistic than ArmA is. Nice, I can reload while walking ... .You can't play it the same way. The head swaying while running make me sick, but Franck, the "Snake guy" show me how to tweak it in Options. The blur when turning head is a bit heavy.

Playing again. 14:00. Playing first Coop Campaign mission. The briefing run smoothly, lot of slides showing strategical and tactical sit as well.
Having chit chat after the briefing. Nice fly to target ... but here it shows to be harder than expected. Our team leader is telling base about some civilians around the target and asks to cancelled the aerial strike.
The trigger happy guy on the other side of radio is arguing, we are having a problem.
Some hostiles are spotted nearby. In a flash the team is down !

Still thinking. The game is rather difficult, playing the Campaign in coop mode is far for being a touristic travel. You must be over cautious while moving. The team leader must make decisions in real time and must be quite assertive about them.
The chit chat after the briefing is fun [and more funny after a "translation" in French]. I had a bad experiment with on over bright face of one of my team mate in the briefing room.

Playing one more time. 14:30. Playing first edited mission by Rewan. We are jumping on the AAPV7 under our AI team leader. Running at high speed to Guglovo.
Damn, the brainless chief don't tell the vehicle to stop and the team to disembark ! Half the squad is dead in seconds.

Thoughts about the AI. The AI on foot is, generally speaking, rather good on foot either friendly or hostile.
The AI behaviour speaking about armour and commanding point of view is strange.

Playing coop again. 15:00. Playing first Warefare with all the player in the room. I spawn on base as an East side soldier, jump in an UAZ, got a strong point at milbase. We got a new mission assigned to Airport.
Fighting an Humvee. CTD!

Thinking about the pro and the cons in game. This game is a rather different game from ArmA.
It can't be played like ArmA.
Some items in the game are unpleasant, the heavy HDR causing glares, the lods from some objects aren't great, thinking in particular about the lod from the "red tree", the AI behaviour looks strange in various situations.
On the other side, the game is quite playable, quite complete, quite beautiful.
The game is realistic, difficult and can't be played in a hurry directly out of the box, you need training for yourself, tweaking for your Options. It's probably more a military simulation than the previous ArmA. Of course, it need some patching but is far more playable than ArmA the 1st at release. I have enjoyed playing ...

Time to speak to Jan Prazak . The guy is quite communicative and passionate about the game, he is living the game. So we have a talk about the game and about BIS projects. Bohemia Interactive is still working on the game, knowing it must be patched and updated. So there will be an international patch at the end of the month. There are some projects about modding tools but Jan is a bit evasive about them. Asking about Visitor3 successor [remembering I am a map maker myself!] there are not definite plan about it, for the already existing Visitor4 is a hardware already sold to BIS military customers, maybe an enhanced Visitor3+ version. Speaking about Jan, he saw something he must test on the spot, but alas, it was too late, time to close the session, to end the Lan Party.

Thanks again to 505Games, to Bohemia Interactive, to 505Games team, to Jan Prazak.
