And then he goes East ! RockofSL from the RKSL Studios has released the next day of his Advent Calendar 2008 with news about East side aircrafts such as the MiG-23MLD, the MiG-29, the Yak-141 and the SU-24.
WIP Day Part 2 - OPFOR Aircraft
Here’s the second of what promises to be a 3 or 4 part WIP report. When you start a project like this advent calendar it seems like a quick and straightforward job. It really isn't. I went through my bulldozer drive looking at the projects that are likely to be completed and I found quite a few. There are of course some that never will be, but others are driven by outside requirements and really do have a damn good chance of being completed.
When I started modding for ArmA I was solely focused on UK projects. At some point along the way someone asked me, “what is the point of making UK/West addons was when there was no decent OPFOR units to counter them.” The idea lodged somewhere in the back of my brain. Some months later during a testing session I started to understand exactly what my friend had said. We were bombing targets with - frankly depressing - impunity. The more advanced and capable we made the UK aircraft the easier the missions got and the less fun it became. So we started looking for ways to bring back some of the balance. We found several options. One was to make the OPFOR more capable too!
He is going on ! RockofSL from the RKSL Studios has released the next day of his Advent Calendar 2008 with news about The Lynx.
Following on from yesterday's Pumas, today we have the Lynx. We designed the AH7 version of this addon as a two player MP aircraft. You can fly it alone but to get the best out of it you need another human in the observer’s seat. The AH7 is meant to be a combat support helicopter and that’s what we’ve tried hard to represent.
Today we have the British “Army” Lynx variants:
Q released a preview of the PROPER plants addon in the BI Forums.. Along the preview he also stated some requests. Please head over to the BI Forum Topic and see if you can help.
========= = Features = =========
1. Przemek kondor beautiful Autumn plants 2. Ability to hide in bushes 3. To run over trees without resistance with the heavy tanks 4. Ugly white / bright shader (OLD / GONE) removed by kegyets lowplants software.
Q: Preview, feedback and support request - Why that.
A1: It would be nice to include Durg's (AI View) Vegetation Fix. The permission is needed AND someone to copy the view geometry from p3d to p3d (or write an o2 script for that). A2: Based on your feedback tweaks to tree mass (see more info below). A3: Based on your feedback tiny point in the geometry for each bush to be able to level them down again (see more info below). A4: Probably another version with the highpoly 1st (and 2nd) LOD removed.
VictorFarbau informed us that he has updated his VFAI - AI Extension to version 2.5 and released it on the BI Forums. This addon makes units smarter and more independent, you can view a sample video of v1.4 below.
VFAI consists of 3 independent addons
1. VFAI_Equipment enables units to independently equip themselves with weapons and ammo from dead bodys. Further information and details included in the readme file. I advise you to read the readme file - it might explain some behaviour you wonder about. Installation: read the readme file (it is easy).
2. VFAI_Smokeshell will cause units to throw smokeshells whenever they're hit. They will try to throw smoke into the direction of the gunner to block his view. More details in the included readme file. Installation: read the readme file (it is easy). All units will then be equipped with 1 smokeshell and will know when to use it.
3. VFAI Control Panel Using this control panel addon you will be able to switch VFAI addons on and off in the middle of the game.
Changes :
2.5 Major change: New control panel, Equipment.AI can now be turned on/off for each group (by group leaders)
As promised RockofSL from the RKSL Studios has announced, here is next day of his Advent Calendar 2008 with news about the Puma HC1.
"Big Cat Diary" - Puma HC1
After yesterday we thought you'd like to see something... well a bit less grey. So we're going to let one of our Big Cats out of the bag. The Puma HC1 comprises approximately 1/3 of the Royal Air Forces Helicopter lift capability. The type has been in service since 1971 but has always maintained its capability with a constant programme of avionics and engine updates. The 33 aircraft are currently split between 2 squadrons but are deployed around the world in various support and combat roles. This is the 3rd incarnation of the model. I've managed to get all the detail I wanted into a lower poly count. The model was scaled and built up from an old 1/32 Airfix AS330L model kit paint sheet and then adapted to the RAF specs. Its current configuration, sensors and flare packs are as close to the latest spec that I can safely make without going overboard and making the model ridiculously "over polyed". .....
Vilas from the PROJECT'85 Mod updated their thread on the BI forums with new screenshots of their early work in progress MiG-21PF made by Yaciek, and a w.i.p BTR-70.
Release is coming soon, even if we will not manage to release all in beta, there will be further patches to mod
Yesterday, RockofSL from the RKSL Studios has announced his Advent Calendar 2008 on the BI Forums.
With Christmas coming we’ve decided to do something special to celebrate the season; so we’ve set up our own Advent Calendar. Each and every day until December 25th you will get a look behind the scenes at RKSL, the latest screen shots and info about all our projects.
And here, is Day 1 !
"Cracking the WIP! - Planes Trains and Automobiles Episode 1 "
Ok so no trains, few automobiles but lots of WIPs. Not something fetish...well I don't know what your tastes run to but hey, whatever floats your boat. We get a lot requests for all sorts of things, and we really try to oblige but some things just aren’t possible under the current engine. Others require some development to get the feature set we want.
Today’s update is all about Work In Progress updates. - Harrier GR7/9 - Tornado GR4 - Sea Harrier FA2 & FRS1 - HMS Albion Class LPD
