I'll belive that the Abrams was mostly designed with frontal assault in mind, but frankly I find it hard to belive that a weapon as dated as the RPG-7 would deliver a lethal hit from the side. If the side armor is THAT weak then what would happen if a tank flanked it? I know the rear armor is lackluster on most tanks, but the side? Much less the turret?

I'd gladly agree that a RPG-7 could land a mobility kill if it hit dead on from the side at that range... but I've heard of Humvee's taking hits from RPGs and the passengers walking away so pardon my skepticism about a RPG taking out a Main Battle Tank.

As for mobility kills? yeah, you stopped the tank... but it can still engage any target with a line of sight for miles. A .50 BMG round through the lung is alot harder to fix than a damaged track.

...Which is exactly what I meant when I said: "Will it seriously harm the Abrams? Not really... Will it slow them down and buy his buddies time? Definatly."

Oh and keep in mind im talking specifically about the RPG-7 launcher. I know damn well something more modern could take out an Abrams with ease.

As you know, I'm sure, Abrams armor is good enough only in a frontal projection. So at any angle beginning from +-45 from ahead (that is for all of 270 remaining) any RPG man can easy penetrate its turret skin, not speaking about its hull. The hull from a side could be penetrated even easier. And you could find corresponding pictures in Inet if you really want it.

What about the picture itself - it is very good :o)

The RPG may not kill the abrams, but it could achieve a mobility kill.

There was one british Challenger 2 (same type of armor) in Iraq that survived 70 RPG hits supposedly.

What we need is an RPG-29 addon, alot more deadly against tanks.

the heaviest load I know of for the RPG-7 is a dual-stage HEAT warhead, and even that wont do much more than annoy a modern Abrams (though at that range? you never know.)

You see a nasty ambush for the cocky Bluefor? I see a stalling tactic while the Opfor set up nastier traps down the road. Will it seriously harm the Abrams? Not really... Will it slow them down and buy his buddies time? Definatly.

Regardless of the reasons behind the image, its still an awsome picture. Great Work! :)

Aren't there heavier payloads for the RPG that can do damage to an Abrams?

In any case, what we're seeing is but a small section of a retreating OPFOR setting up a nasty ambush for the cocky advancing BLUFOR ;)

He's either a daredevil, suicidal or woefully uneducated... and considering that your average RPG wont do shite to an Abrams I'd say probably it's the last option ;)

I'd say one of those "life lessons" is about to happen!

That guy is a daredevil, facing two abrams with only RPG.
