Geotypical Microterrains - A Beginners Guide by Bushlurker Editing

Bushlurker has released the 1st Edition of his Bush's Geotypical Microterrains - A Beginners Guide on the BI Forums. This 42 pages .Pdf guide is coming with the Afghan Valley Source Files needed to follow the walkthrough on the way to build own map. This Guide is a must have, along with Sgt Ace's Tutorial for all having island /terrain making projects.

Finally, as promised quite some time ago , here's the first of my "microterrain" Source File packages, plus a fairly detailed Beginners Guide... (42 page/18,000 word pdf file with clickable main index).

This guide is primarily designed to accompany the Bush's Geotypical Microterrains series of source files packages. As such, it's not really a complete, from-scratch, teach-you-everything-you'll-ever-need-to-know-about-terrainmaking tutorial. There is a "beginners" section which, after some initial install and setup instructions, directs you to Sgt Ace's Tutorial - thereafter, the rest of this guide is more like a mechanics manual - the simple mechanics of getting basic terrain structures working and in-game are discussed in some detail... the files you need, what they are, what they do and where to put them.

FSM Support Systems by Desrat Editing
Desrat has released a FSM Support Systems v 1.0 script pack on the BI Forums.

I know there's multiple air support and artillery scripts around at the moment but whilst investigating the possibilities of what FSM has to offer I decided to make an all in one solution that combines the various options into one package.

The example missions (one for A2 one for OA) uses the communication menu to call in the support (default space bar - communication) and is split into 4 different sub menus ...

... Only 1 support mission can be executed at any given time (so cant have CAS and artillery firing at the same time for example) and the mission designer can impose limits on how may times both fixed wing, rotor wing and artillery can be called (air drops are part of fixed wing), from within "Support\SupInit.sqf"

The ammo drop includes the ability to add custom code so you can use your own loadouts.

I've done my best to ensure multiplayer compatibility and haven't found any game breaking issues thus far.

Tool : User Interface Editor Editing
Gaia has released an User Interface Editor on the BI Forums.

I'm happy to present you ingame tool we're using for internal development for some time. It's simple WYSIWYG editor for Arma 2 and Arma 2: OA user interface.
It won't do all work for you, you still have to have basic knowledge about how GUI works and where to define it. However, it can really speed up the process of creating and modifying dialogs and resources.
Instruction how to operate the editor can be found on community wiki.

I'll appreciate any feedback about bugs and suggestions

This is not an official tool.

  Squint now supports O2 script-checking ... Editing
This new is bit special and aimed to the few ones using O². So if you are a modder using BI tools you will be delighted to know about this new Squint feature announced by sbsmac on the BI Forums.

I'm not sure whether there are very many people who use the O2 scripting capablities, but if so you may be interested that squint now supports editing and error-checking for .bi02s script files. You can learn more about squint from the dedicated discussion forum over here.

More infos about squint on Mac's ArmA tools site.

World Tools 1.6.1 by shezan74 Editing
Shezan74 has released an updated World Tools 1.6.1 on the BI Forums.

What's new on Relase 1.6.1

- World tools now is able to connect to Sickboy's Six Config Browser hosted on Dev Heaven to automatically retrieve object definitions while converting SQM/SQF-BIEDI files into Visitor 3 importable format.

This will greatly improve the program capability to produce a ready-to-import file that could be loaded and hardened into islands by island developers, using ArmA2 mission editor object placement.

Credits goes to Sickboy for his great support.

This screenshot is the result of a FOB import from SQM file into my Fallujah map. The FOB has been made by a clanmate using only the ArmA2 mission editor.

  Squint v117 released Editing
sbsmac has released an updated Squint v 117 editing tool on the BI Forums.

Squint is an editor and error-checker for ArmA script files (sqf, cpp, ext, sqm) and can save you many hours of headache by detecting syntax errors and common logic problems before you even run your scripts in a mission.
You can learn more about it from this presentation.
There is also a basic guide to getting started.
Installation instructions are here or you can just run the setup file from dev-heaven.

V117 tidies up the code-windows by adding a titlebar. You can also turn the line-numbers on and off in a window by using CTRL-L.

There is also a major new feature: squint will now automatically extract and analyse quoted script-code in any cpp file including mission.sqm and fsm files. You can see the results in the file-list as 'mission.sqm(code)' etc.

New titlebars and demonstration of embedded-code extraction. Top view is the original fsm file, bottom view shows the code after extraction.

World Tools 1.6 by shezan74 Editing
shezan74 has released an updated World Tools 1.6 addon on the BI Forums.

Version 1.6

- Added: SQM / SQF-BIEDI script files to V3 feature: World tools now loads your .sqm and your .biedi files and export them into Visitor 3 importable format. [Featured requested and tested by Bad Benson]

Biedi are the files created by 3D Editor in ArmA2 and ArmA2 OA (ALT-E from the main screen). Biedi are the companion files of SQF mission file format.
Program will search into your P:\ disk (if you're a Visitor3 user) trying to match the editor objects with the objects into your ca\ and other object folders.

- Added: Now in forest generator and object remapping the user can remap/place objects that aren't defined in object list, by indicating the path of the object (eg. ca\buildings\tent).

- Added: Forest generator now inform user about the percentage of each mask color into the map. Now you know what you could easily ignore.

- New feature: Forest Generator is now able to SIMULATE forest generation results for easy tuning of final number of objects.

- Bug: Object selection form doesn't remind last position after third open

- Changed: Check for updates will open default browser.
