As to the amount being charged for the pre-release here in the US, I can only say that a patch released prior to game release, a second close on its heels, and a month difference in the release dates for international release into a major market generally relegates the software to C+ grade in my book. It will be shelved and priced accordingly. That's an opinion, but it's one based on about 10 years of retail sales experience.

Actually, when you put it that way then I can see your point. However. it is nice to have everyone else be the "beta" testers for a change. :P

Please understand that I was addressing the Demo only.

Incase you dont know, postproccesing effects is bloom and antianialising is blur, and u can disable them both in the demo, and i think they shouldnt decrease the quality by much either...

Please understand that I was addressing the Demo only. Without decreasing the total graphical level, there is no way to eliminate the blur and bloom. I believe an addon was released because of this for the full German version for the same reasons. Check it out at:

As the US full version has not been released yet, I cannot comment as to the presence or lack thereof of an option to eliminate blur and bloom. I would remind you that altering the post effects settings alters other things in addition to blur/bloom.

Thanks BIS for being so generrous with the demo. Can't waite for the US release. Has anybody tried this- you can actually play ARMA2 has an animal. You can be a cow, sheep or rabbit. You can play say as a rabbit and have your friends hunt you has hunters. You know somebody out there is going to make a hunting mod and make other animals like dear or bears.

how do i instal the DirectX file where do i exctract it to, im so confused

For my downloaded version, it could be extracted automatically to somewhere in the PC. Or you should reinstall DX9 latest version and delete the current version in your computer before doing that.

the blur affect. It's ridiculous

Actually, this blur effect could be changed in the game setting. If you don't like it or feel too overdone, just minimize this effect or make it to suit you. It's really easy to do that.
For me, I were to pay more than $50 if they asked for.

For those that have some mechanical/electrical skills and and don't have $$$ that want to give head tracking a try, check out FREETRACK. I don't know if ArmA 2 supports it but ArmA 1 does. It also works in many other games from racing to flight sim. I tried it using an xbox camera so in total it cost me about $13 plus my time. That being said I highly recommend TrackIR 5.

@ quicksilver1967

I think you can get rid of the "crazy" effects by turning off post processing. [I think]

Also, I agree on every point that you made except #5. I have spent (wasted???) hours upon hours of my life :-P playing ArmA and will probably do the same with 2. Honestly, there aren't many games that I can say are worth their $$$ amount, but this is one that is. For the after sales support and community involvement, I think that the price is well worth it.

PM sent.

Well, I expected to have trouble running this, since I don't have a dual core processor, or even a PCI-E 2 graphics card slot, just a kick-ass graphics card. The demo ran just fine with details set to high and very high, rarely encountering any kind of visual lag. My personal opinion is that the game has been well optimized, but there are a few issues that annoy the hell out of me. Are you paying attention, BIS?

1) First, the blur affect. It's ridiculous. I don't get a blur like that after I run a mile flat out, and I'm not as young as I used to be. It's amazingly annoying, and they should have known better.

2) The bloom. Why should everything glow like it's being run by angels? It's just as annoying as the blur. Nothing should glow that way except a swimsuit model in a short cotton dress poised in front of the sun.

3) The path-finding for the AI still needs improvement. There have even been a few times where no attempt to move has been made, despite ideal road conditions and no obstacles. I ordered a guy in a jeep to drive 500 meters forward. "Yes sir!" he shouted. And then he sat there. I had to order him in and out of the vehicle 3 times. Don't even get me started about moving the troops into town in the Death Valley scenario.

4) The demo, while it includes Track IR bindings in the control section, refuses to acknowledge it. Here's a little tip, BIS. People who went out and spent the money on an IR system are more likely to buy the game. Failure to support it in the demo doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

5) The price. I'm seeing online sites offering it for $50 US. It isn't a $50 game. It never will be a $50 game. It simply isn't as good as a $50 game should be. $30 is more than fair, but I suspect it will settle somewhere around $40, and then fall in about 6 months down to $30.

6) All those levels you have to go through to issue commands. I thought that was pretty annoying in Arma, but it's much worse here. True, there are finally some commands that are actually useful, but to get to them fast enough, you have to have a good head for memorizing numbers.

7) There are times when the vehicle instruments are almost invisible due to ambient shadows. While this IS realistic, for the sake of game play and instrument landings, a player should always be able to see the controls, unless they have been damaged.

Issues aside, the engine seems to finally work the way it should have a long time ago. BIS still has a ton of work to do. I believe I'll wait to buy it until it drops in price and a few more patches have been released.

Very impressive Demo and really worthy for purchasing personally.

looks like BIS finally learnt how to optimize performance, i have a genuine mid spec rig 2.3GHZ AMD x2 4400+ and 2GB ram, only good thing is an 512mb geforce 9800gt, and i can run it with average 30~ fps on mostly high, and some normal settings :O
The game really looks amazing, its like playing in a photoshopped screenshot of Armed Assault :P
