Street protest in Prague, on Nov. 26th, 2012 Community

In support of Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar: Street protest in Prague, on Nov. 26th, 2012

Czech citizens Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar have been detained in Greece since September 9, 2012 on charges of espionage. These charges are, as far as it is possible to tell, completely groundless.

It is hard to see our two colleagues, friends and fellow citizens of the Czech Republic being kept in prison, in appalling conditions, based on dubious allegations, and referred to as Turkish agents. The whole situation is all the more absurd considering that the Czech Republic and Greece are both member states of the EU and, inclusive of Turkey, allies within NATO.

Ivan and Martin are no spies, they are talented developers of the ArmA games series that spreads the good name of the Czech Republic all around the world. Their games sold millions of copies and won numerous awards. The ArmA III game may be a cause for their current predicament. It takes place on a smaller, geographically modified version of the island Limnos in 2035. Obviously, set so far in the future, no current military installations are part of the game.
Ivan and Martin allegedly knowingly and intentionally took pictures of military objects. They were taken into custody in their hotel and as far as we know the evidence against them consists of a handful of pictures with some military facilities in the background, inadvertently captured on quite commonplace vacation pictures. The pictures and videos of the very same military facilities can be easily found on the Internet, in much better quality.

It is not our task to judge the guilt in this affair. However, it is our considered opinion that Greece, being a partner and ally of the Czech Republic in EU and NATO, should treat our citizens with dignity and respect, and without delay. The evidence presented makes us think that the espionage charge is utterly absurd. The strike of the legal professionals in Greece unduly delays any decision.

The members of public gathered here on November 26th, 2012 wish to express their unanimous support for Ivan and Martin and call on His Excellency Mr. Georges Paizis, the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Czech Republic, to approach the representatives of the Greek Government about expediting the solution of this issue.
We are concerned that the whole affair can seriously damage the image of Greece as a free and democratic country not only in the Czech Republic, but also internationally.

Ivan and Martin are well known and the affair is closely followed by their fans and media both locally and internationally. The petitions in their support at petition.helpivanmartin.org and www.petice.biz were signed by more than 21 thousand people from all over the world. The Facebook group for their release has 4,000 supporters. Their fate is closely followed by all Czech TV stations and major dailies and also by the biggest international video game news servers.

Many of us know Ivan and Martin personally. We are one hundred percent sure that they are not spies or agents. They are consummate professionals and decent, law-obeying human beings. We join the ranks of their supporters.

Ivan, Martin – we stand behind you!

Iron Front: Liberation 1944 - review Community

Welcome to the Eastern Front!
You are Karl Neumann, a recruit of the German Wehrmacht, who has to be able to immediately fight against the Russian colossus, that comes closer and closer every day to the German troops.
After a short briefing you have to show your best at a training camp.
Of course Karl succesfully complete the camp exercises and is sent to the front without any further notice.
He sees how unfair the war is, his commander - a coward who is already on the run from the Russians - lets Karl and the rest of his troop look straight into the eye of death.
After their lieutenant is killed, they are on their own, they don't even get support from the other Germans units.
In the end he manages to get himself and his fellow soldiers to safety, back to the German lines and because of this he is promoted to lieutenant and gets his own troop...

This is how the German campaign "Vaterland" begins: Fast, Intense, Authentic.

You don't see many WWII games where you can play a campaign from the eyes of a German soldier.
Iron Front: Liberation 1944 has changed this fact. You can experience the war from an other sight.
Usually you have to play Americans or Russians and fight against Germans who are just depicted as "beasts, killers, Nazis or cowards". Iron Front shows how the "little soldiers" of both sides felt the reality of war: embittering, frightening, wondering about the sense of war and they have seen how corrupt and cowardly their chiefs were, may them be from the Allied forces or from the Axis.

But Iron Front is not a movie but a game, so we have to talk now about the main points of it:

Campaigns:

Iron Front has two campaigns, one from each side of the forces fighting each other to death : German and Russian.
Both are showing a nice and enthralling story, many cut scenes and nice story-intros.
But unfortunately the campaigns, as in many previous ArmA games, includes most of the bugs players will encounter. Sometimes the AI is brainless, sometimes the game doesn't notice that you are already sitting in the SdKfz and in the end you have no other choice but to restart the mission. Luckily the most bugs are already fixed with the latest patches.
However if you have patched the game you have the same problem we had in ArmA once again : You have to restart the mission because of incompatibility between versions.

Single Player Missions:

The games only have two SP missions supplied.

In the first you have to attack Russian forces with a German aircraft. This missions was, before the patch, unplayable due to the game always crashing after starting the mission. After the patch it runs great except you now have to fly a Fw-190 instead of a Stuka.

In the second mission you control German tanks in order to overpower Russian positions. And again, while it usually run okay, sometimes a bug will prevent you to complete the mission, which can be infuriating.

These two missions are not very breathtaking, but are nice to play when you just want a quick game.
Following this letdown we have to focus on the main strength of the -OFP/Arma/Arma2- serie, the well known ...

Mission Editor.

Thanks to the Mission Editor you can create your own missions or just make a fast play with some knowledge about the editor mechanics by placing some units in one of the four terrains, which are big and very nicely detailed areas, including : two Polish and two Ukrainian.
The game also includes up to 35 vehicles and a lot of weapons and units you can use in the editor.

Graphics/Performance/Sound:

There is not much to tell about the Iron Front graphics here if you already have played ArmA2.
Iron Front uses the Real Virtualy Engine 3 from BIS and it has the same benefits and cons like in ArmA2 :
As cons you have the AI, often playing its own game by firing through grass, bushes and other trees foliages, bad animations (especially the faces), the FPS going very low and it needs very high PC specs to run smoothly (and it's not always the case).
The pros are that the game is an authentic simulation, the weapons and vehicles are well made, and of course your surroundings are always nice to watch.

The sound is something special... The weapons and vehicle sounds are really great. Even though the environment and distance-battle sounds are excellent, the soldier voice acting is not that good, being often similar to a fast talking robot with broken vocal cords.

HUD/Menu/Radio chat

The HUD is similar to the one in ArmA2, not really user friendly, hard to master but when mastered offers plenty of possibilities, same goes to the radio chat. The Menu has a nice look and a in-game clip in the background like ArmA2. One thing is baffling: the fact that there is a button for armory that you can't use and you will probably never be able to use because Deepsilver hasn't got the rights from BIS to integrate the armory known from ArmA2, but they let the buttons on the menu.

Conclusions

Of course, Iron Front is not an ArmA 2 clone: you can switch between iron sight and scope, the tanks have a realistic damage model and 4 positions: driver, commander, gun loader, gunner and you can find many other differences more or less noticeable, but nevertheless the game feels like a mod.

All in all Iron Front can't beat ArmA as the leading combat sim! For beginners it's very hard to come behind the controls, it needs too high system specs and it had the same problem like ArmA2 at its release: unfinished because of too many bugs, graphics failures (textures loading mostly), flawed AI, animations and performances problems.
Of course Iron Front is a great and extensive sim, but it will always stay in the shadows of ArmA 2 and of the free mods released on it.

In short: A great combat sim with a complicated control and too many bugs - maybe it will come out of the shadows after more patches.

Here is the latest trailer of Iron Front (Release Trailer):

-The Multiplayer will be added in time-

  DayZ Zombie RPG Mod Community

Rocket's, BI Developer, unofficial DayZ Zombie RPG has really kicked up a buzz over the last few weeks, with Kotaku describing his DayZ survival mod for Arma2 the "the most interesting thing to happen to PC gaming this year" and the "greatest zombie game of all time", and PC Gamer describing it as one of the most "important things to happen in gaming this year" and "gaming’s best story machine".

But just what is this DayZ thing, anyway? from GameSpy

It's not the lovechild of Jay-Z and Day[9], as I'd thought when I first saw the name flooding my Twitter list. Yeah, I was disappointed too, but in actuality it's even crazier than that. It's an open-world fight for survival, and by "survival" I don't mean "cover system." You'll be scavenging for supplies here, before hunkering down in an abandoned building and clutching your flimsy supplies to your chest, crying yourself to sleep and hoping the zombies won't use your time of rest to feast on you. The mod's big draw is the way it plays with your emotions -- players tend to develop close bonds with their avatars because there's no quickload button here. Death is for real -- and it can even happen at the hands of other players. Who can you trust to team up with and protect you? Who can you trust not to kill you for a can of beans?

The latest DayZ patch, aptly titled "More New Ways To Get Fucked Up", adds all sorts of realism-strengthening goodies, such as illness and a temperature system. You'll need campfires to keep warm, but let's hope they don't draw the attention of any sick, desperate players seeking medicine.

"Arma2 has shot back into the Steam sales charts and has even topped sales for the week and looks set to do that again," says a Bohemia Interactive spokesperson in a press release. People have clearly been buying it again to give DayZ a try -- a quick glance of my Steam friends list at any given moment of the day seems to confirm this.

Have you been playing? What's the longest you've managed to stay alive? Oh man. Hey. Why are you staring at me like that? We can share these antibiotics, you know. There's no need to kill anybody.

  P82 - Project 82 Falklands/Malvinas war Minimod launch Community

CimaleX has submitted this new about P82 - Project 82 Falklands/Malvinas war Minimod launch and is asking the community for help, support and time.

Hi to all the community !
Last month in a forum thread I was discussing that 30 years after the Falklands/Malvinas conflict (2nd April 1982 - 14th June 1982) no one seemed to be interested in a dedicated mod for ArmAII, no dedicated mods were available, curiously the addons related to that conflict have been made for other mods; basically because after Ofp in the FLK closed, many of those great addons were shared to some modders, but no one related to the south atlantic conflict.
I asked first 1982 Ofp in the FLK and to MLV Mod if they were interested in this project, after I received a positive feedback I decided to begin a project to port some of the addons into ArmA2 in a Mini-mod.

"Project 1982 - the Falklands/Malvinas war to A2" starts officially, with the aim to make a Mini-mod until A3 is out, to rise the interest for this issue and then make an official team for A3.
Doing a mini-mod by a single person is a difficult task, so I asked help to some artist to make a few addons (basically troops, that due to the different skeleton from A1 to A2 have to be rebuilt) and to retexture/rearrange some of the already existing stuff ported to A2 (eg some vehicles, aicraft, choppers etc...)

I received direct and indirect support from various artists (like CBFASI, LoRo, Konyo, Vilas, Pedagne Mod-ASZ, Trouble, GossamerSolid and others) who accepted to give me their effort in developing the Project.
The aim is to have a basic amount of weapons (based on Vilas West Pack), troops, vehicles and aircraft, while for the island/terrain I chose the good (but still incomplete - lack of objects) Falklands test 40x40 km terrain made by Bushlurker.
Several MP and SP missions were developed for A1 and await the new addons to revive with new Mini-mod.

There's no timetable at the moment as I don't want to press anyone involved with the project (and again I have to thank all the artists/modders involved for donating their already limited freetime) but soon as this presentation is out, the first addon should be ready for release.

If anyone of the community wish give us support and time, please contact me via PM.
