  Isla Del Fuego v0.3 beta by Oktyabr Screenshots    


Oktyabr has released an updated Isla Del Fuego v0.3 beta island on the BI Forums. Working installation of ArmA II/Operation Arrowhead :Combined Operations needed.

... I did try to optimize the foliage for better FPS, and it is, slightly, but don't expect this one to skyrocket performance wise like an empty desert one. I wanted to see what could be done to simulate *dense* foliage and well, everything has it's price.

New surface textures, longer airstrip, smoothed roads, new fences and power lines and more.

I would like to you meet "Bratislav", based on the Great Belt bridge in Denmark it is the tallest, and longest suspension bridge in ArmA 2, stretching for 3km with towers standing proudly at 530 meters over the Taviana horizon.

  A long night of terror by Maxjoiner Mission release    

Maxjoiner has submitted his A long night of terror v1.0 survival horror SP Mission for Combined Op to Armed Assault.info.

While You Were passing over the infected zone
A bomb has your plane Fall and you jumped by parachuted.
Your companions are missing when the plane falled down.
You were part of a very important secret mission to transport Experimental vaccine to cure the zombies.
But of the pharmaceutical powerful multinational companies want to prevent the vaccine is used, because It had many profits had lost.
You have 01:15 to find the Experimental vaccine, otherwise It will lose his effectiveness.
To the expire estimated time the zone will be Bombed with nuclear weapons.
When you will find the vaccine You must reach the extraction point.
The gameplay is simple, Initially you will have only a pistol.
More zombies You will kill more points You will do, then It will appear on the map clues to find the vaccine and points of health restoration and new powerful weapons.
Alternatively, in the plane there were a few cases of munitions falls in town.

JDog has released an updated USS Nimitz for ArmA II v 0.87 addon on the BI Forums.

- Version 0.87 Changelog -

- Fixed: Players/vehicles should no longer fall through the deck of the Nimitz now when joining a multiplayer game (thanks to ZZEZ’s recommendation).
- Fixed: Previously, only aircraft within 10km of the Nimitz at mission start would get the IFLOLS/Tailhook actions. Now, all planes will recieve the action, including those spawned mid-mission.
- (READ)Changed: Using setPos for placement of items on the carrier may no longer work, switch over to using setPosASL.
- Changed: “Raise Tailhook” and “Lower Tailhook” now read as “Tailhook Up” and “Tailhook “Down”.
- Improved: Tailhook options now accessible from 5km out, rather than 3.5km.

Overview
A small island in the south pacific which features several exotic resorts for you to kick back in and take in the beautiful scenery while you sip on your frozen drink of choice. Walk down dazzling white sand beaches or take a stroll through misty dense jungle as you explore Mana and take in all of its hidden magic.

Recently however political unrest in the small country of Fiji has permitted a rather large oil company to move into the area unhindered and is threatening to destroy Mana's once untouched beauty.

  PMC Rugen v1.3 has been released! Addon release    
Snake Man has informed us about PMC Rugen v1.3 island release.

PMC has released "PMC Rugen v1.3" for ArmA 2! (notice, not Armed Assault but ArmA 2).

This is PMC Rugen terrain addon from OFP, ported to work in ArmA and now ArmA 2. This is european Everon & Nogova themed terrain of 25km x 25km size, there is roads, airbase, airstrip, several industrial sites, harbors, cities, villages and two army bases. Refer to the original PMC Rugen OFP release topic and PMC Rugen ArmA release topic.

This is the first ArmA 2 release.

  1,2,3, 4 ... 5 Geotypical Microterrains by Bushluker Addon release    
Bushlurker has released 4 out of his Geotypical Microterrains collection on the BI Forums. ArmA2 & Operation Arrowhead or Combined Operations needed, JTD Clear Horizons heavily recommended.

Background
There's been an increasing trend towards higher-resolution ground terrains recently, both among the Community terrainmakers, and also with BIS themselves...
I recently got around to wading thru the PMC campaign in MP with a friend, and we had a helluva time (in a good way!) creeping around on Proving Grounds, which, as most of you will have noticed by it's "fairly demanding" performance requirements - not to mention the moonscape microterrain - features a very high-res ground terrain mesh...

Hi-res ground meshes are a Good Thing for terrainmakers - you can do a lot more with a landscape when it's basically gridded in finer detail... even features as small as trenches become possible... (prowler.wolf ahead of the pack there, as usual )
On a slightly larger scale - more natural hillslopes, bays and beaches, erosion features - they're all easier to make in better detail and more convincingly with a hi-res ground mesh...
Not to mention how much more fun they can be to play on, with all those smaller scale and more frequent & natural dips and hillocks and ground cover...
The price for all of these Good Things is, of course, those previously-mentioned "fairly demanding performance requirements"...

This synthetic terrain represents a small eroded valley in central Ghor Province, Afghanistan.
I had great fun on this terrain using the BIS Town Generator module - for which it's ideal! - it's used in the in-game island "cutscene" too - a different town every time!

Faffindale, North Yorkshire Dales

This synthetic terrain represents a small area of the Yorkshire Dales.
The Dales are limestone country. At one time in the prehistoric past, the whole area was a shallow tropical sea, with many coral reefs and atolls. Eventually, the sea became land, and the sand and coral became various sandstone and limestone rocks.
Since that time there have also been glaciation episodes, forestation, deforestation, resulting in the quite Scottish-looking moorland with small woods in sheltered areas, characteristic of this impressively scenic part of England.

A permanent fixture in my "always on" addon folder, I heavily recommend it for viewing these terrains!

The Hawaiian Islands are at the southeastern end of a chain of volcanoes that began to form more than 70 million years ago. Many of these volcanoes formed islands that have subsided and eroded beneath sea level, and some of the old volcanoes probably never reached sea level. Each Hawaiian island is made of one or more volcanoes, which first erupted on the sea floor and only emerged above the ocean's surface after countless eruptions.
