OSShD-Y Train Carriages/Coaches Released! Addon release
Martin has informed us about OSShDY Train Carriages addon release on the BI Forums.

If you asked me what my favourite train carriage is (which nobody has ever asked me) I would tell you two things, it's from Eastern Germany and it’s the OSShD-Y. It's true, I love them, they may not be sophisticated and luxurious like the ICE Train but they have that special indescribable Eastern European spirit and magic in them. Just goes to show how good the Germans are in engineering, they can give style to even the most simplest of things, and maybe that’s what we miss in life today, the simplicity like chugging along slowly and seeing things such as the lush forests, rivers, fields, castles, mountains, villages and farms; things that we are usually too busy to think about and appreciate, instead of blasting through like a bullet without barely catching a glimpse of the outside before we reach our destination, so I present to you the OSShD-Y carriages, enjoy!

Addon contents
- OSShD-Y A (1st class) ČD (Czech skin)
- OSShD-Y B (2st class) ČD (Czech skin)
- OSShD-Y Ds (Cargo\Post) ČD (Czech skin)
- OSShD-Y A (1st class) - (Chernorussian skin)
- OSShD-Y B (2st class) - (Chernorussian skin)
- OSShD-Y Ds (Cargo\Post) - (Chernorussian skin)

Additional Information:

- Addon signature included
- Carriages are not drivable only static
- Fully localised in English, Czech, Polish and Russian
- Accurate icon sizes for easy placement in mission editor

Iron Front - Liberation 1944 Trailer Videos

Deep Silver releases first Gameplay Trailer for the tactical first-person shooter Iron Front - Liberation 1944. This independent game is based upon Arma 2

About the game

The German campaign focuses on slowing the advance of the Soviet troops, while the Soviet campaign is all about breaking through the enemy's resistance. However, the player does not have to do all this on foot: Using their computers, tacticians will control tanks, including the famous German battle tank Panzerkampfwagen VI or "Königstiger" and the Russian Stalin tank JS2, or fighter planes such as the Focke Wulf 190 and dive bombers like the Stuka or the Petlyakov PE-2.

Online is where the battle really heats up in "Iron Front – Liberation 1944": Players can either complete missions cooperatively or compete with each other in special multiplayer modes such as "Capture the Flag" or "Attack and Defense". "Iron Front – Liberation 1944" also includes an extensive mission editor, enabling players to intuitively create their own missions and share them with their friends online, thus guaranteeing that there will never be a shortage of new missions.

COOP 20 Takistan Force (OA) v1.06 by Bon Mission release

Bon has released an updated Coop 20 Takistan Force (OA) v1.06 mission on the BI Forums.

Basic concept:

From a collection of different missions the server randomly picks one mission at a time, let it take place at a randomly chosen location on the map of Takistan.
Every player is his/her own squad leader, being able to recruit AI squad members of all types (like in Warfare, without the money).
There are different slots to fill by players, each with its own responsibilities:
-Common Infantry
-Crewmen
-Pilots
- Sniper
- Commander
There are 16 different missions at the moment, like clearing a town, capturing high value assets, hostages, searching ammo caches, escorting a convoy to a solitary outpost etc. - a mission parameter can be set to the maximum number of missions the team has to accomplish or can fail, respectively.
A mission generally can fail, when the overall team's deathcount exceeds a certain value during a mission, so "not to die is vital".

06/22/2011 version 1.06

FIXED: spawned reinforcement units do not move in sometimes
FIXED: "CYCLE" as first waypointtype for air patrols
FIXED: loadout presets not taking a unit's gear capacity into account when equipping
CHANGED: improved algorithms to search for potential IED and camp spawn positions;
CHANGED: replaced UPSMON by a more lightweight patrol script
CHANGED: removed "stop convoy" task
CHANGED: improved the resupply system, can now also be used by service points deployed by commander
ADDED: 2 min. time delay between tasks (can be adjusted in config)
ADDED: dynamic number enemies at encampments; static weapons to the camps; enhanced behavior of enemies at camps
ADDED: hints to the loading screen
ADDED: High Command to the commander role. Damn right.

co12 Righteous Basterds by VanhA Mission release

VanhA has released a co12 Righteous Basterds mission on the BI forums.

Story/background:
Constant civilian and militant harassment near town of Nango got a nasty turn when one of our patrols was ambushed by the countryside.
We captured 3 civilian suspects near the site and we know the village works as a hideout for local militants.
It is also the intention of militants to disrupt the supply lines of Zargabad.
They have placed explosives by the fuel storages in Nango. Use caution when entering the area as the local civilians might pose a threat as well.
Although not absolutely sure about the culprits innocense, we've decided to set an example. To do the dirty job a team has been called in.

The team in question has somewhat nasty habits and we only use them for this kind of work.

From Flashpoint to Arma - 10 Years Later Official

Marek Španěl has posted this "From Flashpoint to Arma - 10 Years Later" article on BI developer's Blog. Here are some extracts .... :

"Dear Arma community,

Ten years ago, a game was released: Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. It completely changed the lives not only of one small and dedicated team of independent developers, but also the lives of many hundreds of thousands of gamers around the world. We would like to take this opportunity not only to thank you for all these great years, but also to shed some more light on various events from the past and to explain more about our plans for the coming years.

Rear-View Mirror

in the years immediately following the original release of Operation Flashpoint, our focus was based on riding on the wave of its success. Operation Flashpoint: Resistance was released one year later and to many of Bohemia's developers it is their favourite game to play to date. Sometimes, though, I feel we made a mistake not taking this even further, especially on the multiplayer and engine side, and by not extending it into a full-blown sequel. However, we didn't want to create a sequel at all back. Instead, we wanted to do something completely different: an RPG Wild West game. Aside from prototyping it, we started numerous other ventures simultaneously: OFP: Elite for Xbox, VBS1, OFP2 in Vietnam and several other projects that did not come to fruition, but elements of which fed directly into later games. VBS1 was struggling to establish itself within the serious military domain (where its biggest rival was, surprisingly, a heavily modified Operation Flashpoint known as DARWARS Ambush!).

OFP: Elite took many years to complete and was not only a major technical challenge but also a commercial problem for Bohemia Interactive, amidst a controversial critical reception with reviews ranging from 1/10 to 9/10. Most importantly it was completely overshadowed by the launch of the Xbox 360 at the same time. For our development team this project forced us to handle various things differently, especially to be more organized and, in the end, this was beneficial for the growth of the company. Developing for a console means that there are many more regulations and compliance procedures. These can cause delays on the one hand, but forced us to streamline, polish and optimize on the other hand. We were also able to identify our technology's bottlenecks when applied to a fixed (and often less powerful than PC) hardware platform. These were all lessons we try to bring forward with us into the future."
....

"Mod to Be or Not to Be

From the early days we always thought that OFP: CWC may become a very nice tool for user made content and we felt the visual editor and user made scenarios are a great way to go. Anyway, from releasing the demo for OFP: CWC we had seen so many user modifications, quickly made even without a visual editor that we started to see a potential even beyond it.

The proprietary scripting language was intended to just do camera-based cutscenes. Since then it has expanded into a vast library of commands, allowing creative designers to turn the game into whatever they like.

The concept of add-ons, packaged into PBO files, has been incredibly useful. Not just in that our games are now filled with data packaged in add-ons, but also the community has released a mind-boggling amount. We initially used it for our own free addons available through game patches, but later more and more effort had been put into making this into a viable means for user made content as well. We still feel the relationship between us and the community has been extremely productive and collaborative and without this Arma would never be what it is now. We are very dedicated not only to keeping the same possibilities of modding and community sharing but also to find ways to improve it further.

Similarly, as with Arma 1 content, we are going to release Arma 2 content in source form to make it easy to create and distribute various user based addons for our games based on it.
Next Please

The future weeks and months are going to be loaded with many different releases. With Arma 2 Free we are trying to breathe more life into the original Arma 2, as well as to seek out new players that could not buy and play the full commercial Arma 2 or Arrowhead for some reason. The beauty in it is that it’s very compatible with various user made missions and even campaigns, plus it’s designed to be compatible with vanilla Arma 2 in multiplayer.

We’re also introducing a sharper focus with Take On Helicopters. Unlike our Arma games, this game in a sense takes on a narrower, yet much deeper, scope. We hope to use it as a building platform to add even deeper vehicle simulation aspects to the Arma experience. Finally, we can make a game where the goal is not to shoot someone! As we want our community to be involved early, we’re planning to release a Take On Helicopters Community Preview very soon. It should give you a better idea of where we are heading, but also allow some of the extremely talented addon makers to start crafting addons tailored for these more advanced simulation aspects that will be part of our future releases.

Arma 2: Firing Range is going to tap into the world of mobile devices and web browser games. It’s partially an experiment, but seeing Arma 2 graphics and firing all of its weapons on smartphone or tablet definitely makes it worthwhile.

There is also Carrier Command: Gaea Mission which has been under development for many years now. It’s not only a tribute to one great game that was way ahead of its time when launched in 1988, but it’s also our attempt to create a more mainstream game for all major platforms. As we feel the gaming technology is now very solid and the gameplay is finally at the stage we originally envisaged, we feel confident the game will see a release sometime next year.

And at the heart of all our efforts is Arma III, but more on that later!

For now, farewell and good bye to Operation Flashpoint. Long live Arma. It has been an exciting and busy ten years, and we hope to see you around even one decade later.

Best wishes

On behalf of Bohemia Interactive

Marek Španěl"

Cold War Rearmed² Demo released ! Addon release

W0lle from the Cold War Rearmed Mod has informed us about CWR² Demo release.

Ten years ago today, the small, independent developer from the Czech Republic, Bohemia Interactive Studios, unleashed Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis on the world. No one could have anticipated the effect it would have. OFP immediately shot to the top of the PC sales charts, and garnered critical acclaim from reviewers world-wide, including Game of the Year from GameSpy. The Cold War-era weaponry and setting, combined with open battlegrounds, and the most hardcore realism of its time resonated with fans, creating the ever-amazing community we have today. Though there have been many imitators (some more... "directly" than others), there will ever only be one OFP in the eyes of true fans. Today, ten years on, we are releasing our demo for Cold War Rearmed² to celebrate this anniversary and take you back to the Malden Islands.

Just remember one thing: when you see the flash, it is already too late!

Cold War Rearmed² is the sequel to the popular Cold War Rearmed Beta. It aims to recreate the experience of the excellent Cold War Crisis and Resistance campaigns from Operation Flashpoint, taking advantage of Bohemia Interactives's modern engine and gameplay enhancements from Operation Arrowhead.

The Cold War Rearmed² Demo Release Celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the release date of Operation Flashpoint.

This release showcases the capabilities of the small but dedicated Mod team. It includes many kind donations from other amazing development teams, and serves as a collection of works from the who's who of the incredibly productive and generous Bohemia Interactive Community. Included in this Demo:

* Everon Island completely revamped from scratch, including all buildings, fountains, and other objects from the original. This island features some of the densest forest ever seen in the RV 2 Engine- going into the woods is scary again!

* A demo campaign made from a subset of the CWC Everon missions, plus bonus, community made, single and multiplayer content, including PvP missions by Celery.

* Over 150 units, weapons, and vehicles, not including subvariants. The full complement of assets from Operation Flashpoint have been redone completely to ArmA 2+ specifications, or enhanced from source material. In addition, bonus weapons and vehicles have been provided to add diversity to your user generated scenarios!

Enjoy the demo and stay tuned for the Cold War Rearmed² full release, including all missions and islands!

This release is dedicated to James 'Planck' McNicoll. You will be missed and we're sure you would be happy with what we achieved.
