... and here was I thinking it came from the community!!
.... people wanted to shorten it to AA, but of course couldn't because that was another FPS game, so people shortened it to ArmA ......

And it was just a huge cooincident that it matched a latin word, which BIS jumped on later.

"Arma" in spanish means: weapon.

Of course it has nothing to do with the name Armed Assault...


Well ArmA1 was called "ArmA: Armed Assault", so that would mean Series title: Episode title. So the series title is ArmA, not Armed Assault.

Of course it has nothing to do with the name Armed Assault... and the fact they want to market this as a new game and not a sequel. Yeah... not far-fetched at all :p
