Well yeah. That's the only thing you can do with it. Test your rig. Besides that there is not much point getting it. I assume that there will be a demo version later. In my opinion alpha is more oriented on testing the game itself.

I am answering a lot of question on various forums on the subject, the Arma3 Alpha Lite is an easy and ... free way to have an answer.
