Can people read the what it says and stop connecting this article as being purely about arma2? It's seriously dumb to sum up everything about arma2 in an article about linda.

An automated plant generating tool is NEEDED for ArmA 2 because the scale is way too big to manually model multiple different versions of all kinds of plants. It actually saves time and money.

On an other note, it's sunny in 2 of the screenshots! I was already thinking it's always cloudy in Chernarus :P

@ Alpha: Motion capturing is nothing new, but it's still too expensive / much work to do it all for yourself as a small team. So you find someone that already has the equipment/place/technology and rent it. BIS already has a MC studio that they use for their work and rent it to others.
It's basically the same with Linda. It was developed to help in creating vegetation and so they need less time for this, as they can automate a big part of the process. It was already used for OFP Elite and ArmA 1, and only now they start to offer the service of doing this to others.

Motion capture = advanced technological product? Sounds like basic today 4 me.

@Old Bear
"a small company as BIS even if it produces games for our fun need more money to live and develop its activity"

Wow - I could't said it better. So there is no money in developing games (like OPF), they just make ArmA II for us kids - fun & play. Now also the real buisness.
Developing "real" programms.
-> For the small company that has no one to fix ArmA 1, but a lot of "free" guys to make trees.

Splitting their ressources that way before the release will result in massive "selling real bushes" view weeks after the release (to make some extra money). They forgetting what made them big.

@Alpha125 : Please refrain from psychological comments ... as they develop games BIS has also develop advanced technical products such as motion capture. Linda is one of this "side effect" and it's great !
It's great not only as a product to included items in a game but also as product helping film makers.
What you see here is an offer to sell a service to film makers, to game developers.
It's has nothing to do with psychology it's just about economy because a small company as BIS even if it produces games for our fun need more money to live and develop its activity.
So I hope the service will be sell to many film makers and game developers so everybody can enjoy such beautiful landscapes and thus I will be able to play ArmA 3 in 2012 ;)

If you wanna study botany - ArmA II will be perfect for sure.

But will it be a perfect WAR SIMULATOR? I have a bad feeling BIS wastes their money and time in the wrong way.

The PC specs will be as high as the poly count of the trees. Will MORE or LESS people buy that game in the first 6 months if I'm right about this? The bst way to loose customers is to make the game 15 fps "unplayable" on the most machines.

3 months before release they still suffer reality loss and exaggerated opinion of oneself.

apparently yes. The vegetation in arma1 is actualy highly inefficient and sucks up far more performance than it needs to. Apparently this is better.
