Operation Frenchpoint return ... announced ! Community

IkåR from HEXAgon Mod has publish a communiqué on the new Operation Frenchpoint site.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the return of the Operation Frenchpoint mod.

Hexagon will soon no longer exist, but don't worry, the addons we worked on in recent months will be fully available, as expected.

Operation Frenchpoint was born just last nine years ago , in October 2002, the first public release was in February 2003 for the game "Operation Flashpoint".
It's a return to sources and especially the desire to revive this Mod.

Operation Frenchpoint is already present on "Operation Flashpoint" but also on "ArmA", it will be soon on "Operation Arrowhead" and "Combined Operations".
For those who are nostalgic, you can find older versions of OFrP Mod in the downloads site.

The difficult conversion from "Hexagon Mod" to "OFrP Mod" is already completed, we have lost very little time.
The compatibility will be ensured with missions created for Hexagon, everything should work fine since the old entries are stored in the configuration.
The site is still in the colors of Hexagon, a new graphic theme is under construction.

Here are some screenshots of our most recent work in progress
A few ingame shots of the vehicles shown in last weeks wip report, the textures are getting near to their finale stage, config and animations are now the main focus for them.

Soldiers seen in the pictures are the BWmod Soldiers

In addition to that Maverick is currently working on the Gepard class missile-boat, to be more precise the S 72 "PUMA" P 6122

AAN is back on-line ... with a Quizz ! Community
Some members of the community were wondering why AAN site was not reporting back the last news from the P8H8 hack as well as the efforts made by the community to discover the truth ! During the last hours the AAN site has been down, perhaps hacked by the mysterious hacker group. But we are glad to announce that the site is back with astonishing news and questions :

Current status on the “hacker” situation.

Written by Jackson Irvine Monday, 16 May 2011 10:00

The issue regarding the hacking of Bohemia Interactive's website has grown to an enormous extent. The digital attacks continue in various forms. Fans of the military simulation game Arma 2 and its expansions gather at a community forum to find out what the attacks and the information left behind could mean. They gradually started to believe that rather than an actual hacker attack the whole issue is perhaps some kind of ARG, some kind of a puzzle game. They believe the developer’s studio will soon announce something big and are using this “game” to allow its fans to find out details about the upcoming project in advance. No one really knows yet what will be announced and when. The fans so far only have guesses and speculations.

The first “hack” took place on Monday May 2, 2011. A total of eight “attacks” happened so far, each at precisely 42 hour intervals – exactly as the hackers claimed in the first attack. The last attack happened on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The development of this issue is closely monitored by fan sites Armed Assault.info , Armaholic, OFPEC , an exhaustive overview was created by the players of this detective game themselves as a dedicated wiki page at ArmA Enigma. Here you can find information on the date, time and form of all attacks as well as conclusions drawn from these, overviews of unresolved questions, speculations and links to files and sites (some of which are, as we found out, already unreachable – possibly due to high traffic generated by players of this game and their unpredictable actions).

We decided to ask the developers themselves to comment on the situation. At first, they didn’t want to comment at all, even in the future. It’s quite clear the fans are really impatient and most importantly do not see any tangible results, so we convinced the developers to at least hint when they will shed some light onto the matter. We received only some sort of weird questions after they agreed. We have no idea whether to send back the right answers or wait for some explanation.

The quiz is reprinted here exactly as we received it:

An other Ball in the Wall Community
MadDogX has release a summary of the afternoon events on the Armaenigma.com Wiki

On Saturday, almost 45 minutes late, the hackers struck again, this time "calling" a forum moderator and leaving a message.

Targets

At 18:44 CEST, BIS forum moderator Zipper5 posted a message in the hack thread:
"Okay guys, I just got this really weird phone call. The guy was speaking what I think was Farsi, and after eventually getting it through to him that I couldn't understand him he told me in broken English that I should check my email. I have an email in my spam folder from p8h8@p8h8.info and a message saying "We are watching you." I have no idea what this is about."
At 18:51 CEST Zipper5 posted another message:
"Here's a print screen I made of the original email I received":
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/6994/p8h8email.jpg
Findings
At the site p8h8.info is a small web form. Entering an email address into this form will cause an email to be sent to the given address.
This email contains what appears to be an ASCII image.
Trying the same email address twice returns the message "Email already sent."
Each ASCII image appears to be different, which hints at procedural generation.
Varanon found that by putting the images together, they form an animated sequence of a sphere smashing into a wall.

  P8H8 extended hack attacks Community
As you know ArmedAssault.info site has been subject from an attack from P8H8 group last night, it seems that Ofpec.com and Armaholic.com were also subjects of attacks from the same group. Here some infos from AAN Channel :

Iranian hacking group extend scope of cyber-attacks

Written by Jackson Irvine Friday, 06 May 2011 10:26

As previously reported by AAN, an Iranian hacking group P8H8 has in recent days targeted the official website of popular military game Arma 2 with a series of digital defacements which have left the developers and security experts baffled, both by the means in which the hacking group are carrying out the attacks and more specifically the reason for the attacks and the mysterious information being left behind following each attack.

AAN can now report that not only has there been a further wave of attempted hacks by P8H8, but this time the hacking group went after a number of websites affiliated with arma2.com which has sent a shiver of panic right through the core of the Arma2 community.

At 2200 GMT last night, three Arma2 community websites: Ofpec.com, Armaholic.com and ArmedAssault.info were targeted for defacement apparently by P8H8, web and security experts at the three sites fiercely battled against the cyber-attacks and we can report that as of this morning all three have confirmed to us that they avoided actually being defaced by P8H8, the contents of the websites was protected and the hackers were this time foiled in their attempts, the only thing they managed to do was upload one mysterious file to the servers of each website.

The Bohemia Interactive community is abuzz with this latest development and there is wild speculation as to the meaning for everything that has happened to date, while many are concerned about how far this seemingly untouchable hacking group will go to further their aims, most are occupied with trying to solve what has become a stunningly mysterious riddle, early analysis of the image indicate that it contains a hidden url in the properties as well as a number of characters hidden in the depths of the actual image, which can only be detected by acute ocular observations. The codes were identified as video reference codes for the popular video sharing website Youtube, the codes equate to three different videos: Tom Waits "Black Wings", Rihanna "Breaking Dishes" & Bruce Springsteen "The Wrestler", specifically the codes point to exact time stamps during the videos which then play three words: stone, man & wheat, as to what these three words signify AAN has no further information.

Whilst we have no specific details about a continuation of planned attacks, it does appear that the hackers still have an agenda that they have not finished pushing. AAN this morning attempted to contact Bohemia Interactive for a statement but were met with a terse “no comment”, after attempting to explain that they had a duty to assure the Arma2 community that they aren’t in further danger from the hackers, we received a further reply of “the situation is on-going and we have nothing to say until we have concluded a full investigation.” We can only advise the Arma2 community as a whole to stay alert, be vigilant, and to trust no-one.

Here is the result of the "camouflage" picture decoding :

  ArmA2.com hack attack developpements Community

It seem that we were right on our previous released new, here some infos from AAN Channel :

Further developments in on-going digital attack to popular mil-sim game site.

Written by Jackson Irvine Thursday, 05 May 2011 13:52

The sudden and unexpected defacement attack to the official webpage of a popular modern military game Arma 2, as previously reported on AAN, continues. Despite attempts by security and software experts which initially removed the digital attack by an Iranian hacking group calling themselves "p3R51An 8lacK Hat5 8oy5" (p8h8). There has been a further incident in which the arma2.com website was targeted and had its contents replaced by digital imagery and text by p8h8 which seems to identify some kind of hidden cache in a real world location.

Following the information provided by the hackers, the community at Bohemia Interactive's forum has informed us that a cache was indeed found buried in the Czech Republic on the exact spot identified in the hacker’s photographs. The cache was collected by a local treasure hunter and we bring pictures of the cache and its content link. The uncovered map seems to be a sheet from a military manual identifying some kind of war maneuvers across parts of Europe. Early indications from experts we’ve consulted say that the map does indeed appear to be authentic.

It seem that Official ArmA2 site has been hacked this morning, here some news from AAN Channel :

Iranian hackers attack Czech game and simulations software developer

Written by Jackson Irvine Monday, 02 May 2011 10:26

An official webpage of a popular modern military game, Arma2, was attacked by an Iranian hacker group called Persian Black Hats Boys (PBHB) at 12:00 CEST today. The PBHB, also known as "p3R51An 8lacK Hat5 8oy5" to the security community are a well established hacker group known for their inventive defacing attacks. A website defacing attack is an attack, whereby the hacker logs onto a webserver as an administrator and changes the look of the page. The PBHB is known for politically motivated attacks and it is speculated the attack is in relation with a new project by Bohemia Interactive that has not been announced yet.

The attack itself was remedied soon after it was discovered, but the message from PBHB threatens that further attacks will take place every 42 hours. The security breach was eliminated, but as Jan Nohatý, an electronic security specialist, said: 'They (hackers) are always one step ahead of us. I do not believe they will hack us in the next 42 hours again as we strengthened our security measures significantly. Our affiliated websites, forums and fan pages however should be aware as they could be connected with our business activity and therefore face certain level of risk.'

A link to a mirror of the defaced webpage on an ANN server follows. No security risk arises from clicking on the link.

According to Bohemia Interactive marketing materials, the company creates simulation terrain according to real terrain data. So the speculation is that the hacker's claims and photos point to a real location. Why would the hackers point to such a place remains unknown. We are not able to locate the spot nor send an investigator to find out the truth.
