  ArmA Effects v0.52 released Addon release
Maddmatt updated his ArmA Effects addon and released version 0.52 in the BI Forums. View an outdated YouTube video showing some sounds from previous versions here.

This mod improves ArmA's particle effects, such as explosions and fires.

It contains many new effects, including
* New effects for weapons and explosions.
* Tank muzzleflash.
* More smoke when buildings are destroyed.
* New burning and smoke effects.
* AT backblast effects.
* Aircraft destroyed in the air now leave a flame/smoke trail (doesn't seem to work properly in MP).
* Various other tweaks.

Small update to version 0.52.

I just added correct addon dependencies to get rid of the MP error message and make sure the mod warns you if you don't have certain required files.
I also improved the rain effect a bit.

  About Building Destruction in ARMA 2 Screenshots

Ondøej Španìl has posted about building destruction in ArmA2 on the Developer's Blog.

Where have all the destructible buildings gone? (Long time ago)

Destruction
This is question which many have asked after the ArmA 2 announcement: what has happened to two highly anticipated features: dynamic building destruction and RPG game play elements.
Did they "Gone to graveyards every one"? Or will they be present in the form we have seen them? And if not, why not - is Bohemia deliberately holding them out?
This blog attempts to answer those questions.

Destructible buildings
When we demonstrated Game 2, dynamic buildings destruction was one of the features we were talking about, and one which was liked a lot by those who have seen it.
What we had:
* Playable prototype of several buildings which were dynamically destructible. The destruction was very impressive, using physical simulation, and leaving plenty of permanent and dynamic debris.

Game 2 Concept
What we did not have:
* AI reacting to changed environment
* Solution for multiplayer
* Technology optimized enough so that it could be used extensively in large environments
* A building creation pipeline which would allow us to create such destructible buildings efficiently
Back then, we hoped we will be able to solve those problems in some or other way. Unfortunately the reality was different. In spite of the fact we invested a lot of time and workload into those problems, especially the last one has proven to be too difficult, and it was clear the idea in its original form needed reworking.
We did some redesign, learning from the problems we had, and after that the building destruction system for ArmA 2 should look like this:
* Based on ArmA destruction
* Buildings having multiple parts collapsible independently
* Physical simulation used for falling debris / wall parts
* No permanent debris left

ARMA 2 Prototype
We think a solution like this will bring most of the benefits of the dynamic building destruction to the game, but will be a lot easier to implement (and prepare data for), will require a lot less CPU power for simulation and will be friendly to both AI and multiplayer.
I understand some people will be disappointed, as this is not what we were originally talking about, and it is not what we strove to implement, but I hope most will understand the decision was not easy for us and we decided this way because we have seen it as the best for the game we are developing for you.

RPG elements ... stand by

Another major feature advertised for Game 2 was RPG elements and non-scripted conversations. What has happened to them? Were they reduced or perhaps scraped completely? You will learn more in the next episode of this blog.

  Darker textures for M16/M4 rifles Screenshots
Milkduster has released a Milkdusters Dark Rifles V1 addon on the BI Forums featuring M16/M4s with darker textures.

After releasing my darker ironsights people wanted the entire rifle to be darker, so here it is. This addon replaces BIS's textures with darker ones on the M16/M4 family rifles. The magazines are also a little bit darker.
...
Don't try to run the addon along with Milkduster's Darker Ironsight Replacement/Addon.
There are a few issues, it would be greatly appreciated if some one knew how to fix these.

  Real M136 updated Addon release
Inkompetent updated his Real M136 addon, that turns the M136 into a single shot weapon, just as it is in real life in the BI Forums. This version makes use of the Extended Event Handlers addon for better compatibility with other addons.

Since the M136 is a single shot disposable weapon in real life I thought it should be in ArmA too. The M136 is now firable once, then automatically dropped on the ground. It can be picked up, but since the weapon can't be loaded and fired again the only purpose would be in a human vs human missions if you want to be sneaky (however sneaky it is to fire an AT rocket!)
Ammo loadout for US and RACS AT soldiers are changed accordingly, giving them only one M136 rocket each, and exchanging the two excess rockets for magazines. The total number of slots used is the same as before, and thus shouldn't have any other effect on the game.

This version makes use of the Extended Event Handlers addon for better compatibility with other addons.

  Lowlands Warrior: OPFOR guerilla addon released Screenshots
sander from the Lowlands Warrior Mod released an OPFOR guerilla addon in the BI Forums. In order to play with these units, Queens Gambit is required!.

Furthermore this addon is packed with 7-zip, a packer tool similar to Winrar. You can get it from HERE, but the files can also be extracted with Winrar.

Hi,

Now that Sinterklaas has arrived in the Netherlands, he has brought with him a new set of troops for good children of all ages to play with. The LLW OPFOR guerilla addon adds a number of irregular fighters dressed in camouflage for both temperate and arid climate zones. Also included in the package are some simple demonstration missions.

  DMSmokeGrenadeVB3 released Addon release
DMarkwick has updated his DMSmokeGrenadeVB addon on the BI Forums.

This addon will add a viewblock object to smoke grenades, and generally improve the look of all grenades. The viewblock object is invisible to the player, but will effectively block the view of AI in, through or past the smoke grenade smoke volume. It is reactive to wind direction & strength, and a special player Action has been added to your Action menu called "Wind info", which will give you wind strength & directional information at the time of use.

New version :
Still got the MP throw problem, but slightly different in a way I can't quite remember right now. Something transparent to the player anyway, so you won't see any difference, it's just more efficient.

  Black Hawk Down Mod report Screenshots

Kenwort from BHD Mod has released Parvus's new screenshots of their WIP on Black Hawk Down Mod blog.

Hey guys! We are still looking for people to join the MOD!
We are currently looking for:
- modelers
- texture artists
- script writers

But if there is any other way you could help the mod, please feel free to visit our forums and leave a message.

We are working as hard as we can but with the limited team as we are we can’t do much in little time, there are so many objects that need to be made and not even talking about the soldiers and vehicles…

We would like to thank Parvus for capturing these brilliant screenshots of battle using our Mogadishu island and other community addons. Here they are.

  Darker Ironsights Addon release
Milkduster has released a Darker Ironsights replacement/addon pack on the BI Forums.

I was bored, and kind of let down by BIS' ironsights on the m16 and m4 rifles, I would have to strain my eyes to see them. So I decided to try retexturing them so I can see them easier. I just added a little spray to the front post area so it kind of looks like some one sprayed it with that sight black stuff.
All the m16 and m4 rifles, without aimpoints or acogs, are modified with darkened ironsights (just the front post section, not the rear peep hole.) This comes with a replacement mod so you can play with them online without having to add them to missions. Install it just like any other addon. Heres a list of the altered rifles.

M16A2
M16A2 with grenade launcher
M16A4
M16A4 with grenade launcher
M4
M4A1

The M4s dont have the blackened triangular section, but they do have a darker post. (I'm not sure why it does that). Anyway, enjoy...
