Community Blog Interview No2: Jerry Hopper Community
Paul R. Statham, more known as Placebo has released an interview of Jerry Hopper, the bouncing reporter from Sahrani Radio, on Bohemia Interactive web site.

Anyone who was involved in the community towards the end of ArmA’s development and then especially through the first year subsequent to release, cannot fail to have noticed Jerry (if he thinks you don’t notice him he’ll come round to your homes in the middle of the night so it’s best to say you notice him!). Jerry certainly livened up the community with his own unique blend of community activism and news posting, so without further ado, let’s bring on the Jerry……..

  Community awards 2008 Community

Today, Placebo posted some updates on the BIS community blog. The Community Awards 2008 nomination form is online!

Many words have been spoken about how important the community is as a whole, the talent that the community collectively brings forth, to provide us with many things that keep ArmA alive, whether that be addons, mods, missions, campaigns, squads, websites or simply just some damn fine conversations on the various medium out there.

Most of the time it would be unfair to pick out one or two examples of the best that the community has to offer, but then as they say, life's not fair! To that end we can officially announce the first stage in the 2008 Community Awards, these awards will be a chance for the community to nominate and then vote for their favourites in a number of areas (see below), The category winners will each receive prizes and to hopefully ensure that as many people nominate/vote as possible there will also be 5 randomly awarded prizes of ArmA posters, the posters will be given to 5 names of people who nominated/voted during the awards process as drawn from a hat

There are four Award categories :

- ArmA Addon/Mod of the year 2008
- ArmA Mission/Campaign of the year 2008
- Community Website of the year 2008 (eg news site, squad site, addon site whatever, online radio station etc)
- Community Member of the year 2008 (eg most helpful, most interesting, most productive, most passionate etc)

Prizes for the winners of the Awards, will be announced shortly.

So, head over and to the BIS community blog and cast your vote!

Sorry, but you are not going to spend hours looking at a new TV serie featuring your favorite game in 2009, play the game instead. Go play ArmA!

  William Porter Blog Update Community

William Porter has updated his blog again. Into Enemy Territory, that's the title and it looks like that Prime Minister Torres is attacking South Sahrani! Find out more on his blog and don't forget to read the other entries as well!

Word is that Prime Minister Torres had been planning his attack since he first heard we’d be training the kingdom’s troops. He’d just planned to launch it once we were all gone, or so his story goes. Some SNAFU.

Uses and Abuses for cracked MLOD models article Community

JdB and I have written an article concerning the "illegal MLOD models issue".

News edited, new information at the end!

A few days ago a kind of earthquake has occurred unnoticed by all but the Modders of our community. Generally modders can learn how to model and create config files by using BIS samples and seeing how they are made, since there is very little public information and documentation.

Unfortunately only a very limited amount of these models have been released by BIS, so Synide, a modder, converted all BIS encrypted models to an editable format, called MLOD, to offer them to the modding community. He did this without BIS permission, so it was a kind of reverse engineering method, which is clearly forbidden in the Armed Assault EULA.

Recently BIS has made it clear that people that used the reverse engineered MLOD's should cease doing this immediately, including sites that host the results of this breach of the EULA. As you may have noticed we just opened this section on our website a few days ago and were forced to close it. Our action to propose these models to the “masses” actually kind of started the whole issue.

You can read the full article here!

EDIT:
We have a great new...
Placebo shown our article to Marek Spanel and he confirmed us that BIS is going to release all their MLODS models for being used by the Arma community, we just still do not know if it will really be all models, nor how they will be released, where and when!

Quoting Placebo:
They key issue is really that when we release them we include full and proper documentation such as EULA which clearly states what they can and cannot be used for, whereas unathorised releases tend not to include such "protective" documentation.

It means that, once more, BIS will find a way to continue supporting the community, like they used to do since years!

Ask SUMA - a interactive interview with Ondrej Spanel Community
Our friend JerryHopper has submitted us a news concerning an interview for Sahrani Radio with the BIS lead programmer, Ondrej Spanel!

Dear community,

As you all know, i am doing interviews with ArmA community members.
Since quite a while, i have been trying to get BIS developers on our radioshow/podcast.
Today, i'm very honored to finally announce the confirmation on a interview with Ondrej Spanel, also known as Suma.

As i always believed that Sahrani Radio could be the voice of the community, and today i give you all the chance to be just that. We have setup a special 'answering machine' where you can record your question for Suma.

You have maximal 20 seconds to ask your question, so keep it brief and to the point.

Try avoid questions like 'when will product or patch X be released?' as they most likely will not be asked for obvious reasons. From all submitted questions, the Sahrani Radio staff will pick the most interesting ones and those will be asked and aired in the interview.

You can ask your question at the following adress.

http://www.armedassault.eu/recorder/
( Java is needed to view the page correctly )

A good example would be :
"Im John Doe from Belgium, and wanted to know if suma likes chinese food"
The best chance to to have your 'audible'question aired, is to ask a original and interesting question.

Good luck!

Regards,
Jerry Hopper.

  Sahrani radio back Community

Our friend and colleague JerryHopper from ArmedAssault.eu has announced us that his great Sahrani Radio project is back online! We support this nice initiative and strongly advise you to listen to it like all real Sahrani-based soldiers do! ;)

The radio is online 7/7 24/24, with music and it will broadcast new interviews, as well as other field-reports in and around armedassault. While we are writing these lines Rhodite is currently playing and talking. Direct link to listen with a AAC+ compatible mediaplayer like Winamp is http://arma.valuenet.nl:8000/listen.pls.

To give the radiostation some variety, we're looking for people from the community who have a good taste for music and humor.
Are you that guy with a different taste of music? and are you not afraid to let your voice be heard on the radio or podcasts / interviews?
This, in combination with a healthy dose of humor, makes you a perfect candidate for this position.
As an Sahrani Radio 'deejay' you spend about 3-6 hours per week on unique audible content within the armedassault community.
If you are interested in being part of Sahrani Radio, send an email to hopper.jerry AT gmail.com
Ofcourse, if you dont have the time to commit yourself to Sahrani-Radio, but do want to help us out on a irregular basis your welcome too.

Made by Daniel from England.

As one jury member put it: "Just an excellent moment captured."

Made by Ruhisu from Poland.

Made by Gangster from the Czech Republic.

One jury member commented: "Very much captures the idea of 'on the fly' combat photography."

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone that participated. Your entry didn't make it, but as they say: "Better luck next year!". Keep making those shots :)
